Hymn 1: Great is thy Faithfulness

Verse 1:  Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be

Chorus: Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me

Verse 2: Summer and winter and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love

(Back to Chorus)

Verse 3: Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine with 10, 000 beside

Exhortation, Charge, and Declaration

(the congregation including the groom and bride all stands)

Dearly beloved in Christ, we are assembled here in the presence of God and this congregation to join this man and woman in holy matrimony. Marriage is a holy estate, instituted by God and commended in the scripture as honorable to all who enter it lawfully and in true love.

It was confirmed by Christ’s solemn words and hallowed by His gracious presence at the marriage feast in Cana of Galilee, and is declared by the great Apostle Paul as signifying the revelational  union between Christ and His church.

Therefore, it ought not to be entered into lightly, unadvisedly  or wantonly, but thoughtfully, reverently, discreetly, soberly and in the fear of God; duly considering the causes okay which it was ordained.

First, marriage was ordained for companionship, mutual society, help and comfort which husband and wife ought to have for each other in all circumstances. “For this cause, a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh.”

Second, it was ordained that the natural instinct and affection implanted by God in His creatures, should be hallowed and directed aright, that those who are called of God into his holy estate should continue therein, in pureness of living.

Third, it was ordained for the procreation of children to be brought up in the knowledge, fear, and admonition of the Lord and to the praise of His Holy name.

Into this holy estate of marriage, these two persons Boluwatitoleyi Elizabeth and Oluwapelumi Paul come now to be joined. Therefore, if anyone can show why they may not lawfully be joined together in marriage, let him now speak or else hereafter forever hold his/her peace.

Charge and Declaration:

(The couple remain standing while the congregation sits)

I require and charge you both as you will answer at the dreadful day of judgment when the secrets and motives of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you knows of any impediments why you may not be lawfully joined together in marriage, please confess it now. For know for sure that if any two persons are joined together other than as God’s word allows, their marriage is not lawful.

The man shall answer: I will, by God’s grace.

The minister shall ask the bride:

Boluwatitoleyi Elizabeth, will you have Oluwapelumi Paul as your wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of marriage? Will you love him, comfort, honor and keep him, forsaking all others, keeping only to him for as long as you both shall live?

Likewise, the woman taking the man by the hand shall say:

I, Boluwatitoleyi Elizabeth, do take you Oluwapelumi Paul to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, to love and to cherish in all circumstances till death do us part and thereto I give you my promise.

Blessing of the Bible and the Rings:

The minister receiving the Bible and the rings shall bless them, saying:

The Minister delivers the Bible to the man and he shall say after him: With this bible, I wed you, with my body I honor you and all my worldly goods with you I share, from this day forth in the name of God the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

The Minister delivers one of the rings to the man to put in the fourth finger of the woman’s left hand and the man holding the ring shall say after the minister:

This ring I give you as an identity of our wedding that the world may know that you are mine and I am yours in the name of God the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Corporate prayers for the couples

(The officiating ministers/other ministers in the congregation prays for the couple.)

(The couple on their knees, the Minister leads in the prayer:)

O Eternal God, creator and preserver of all mankind, giver of all spiritual grace, author of everlasting life: send your blessing upon these your children, this man Oluwapelumi Paul and this woman Boluwatitoleyi Elizabeth whom we bless in your name and grant that living faithfully together, they may surely perform and keep the vow and the covenant between them whereof these rings given and received are a token and pledge and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, living according to your laws, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Minister's Authoritative Declaration of the new Status:

These two are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder. Those who God Almighty has joined together, let no customs, traditions, cultures, law courts, the couple themselves, situational ethics or any other tendencies put asunder. I repeat, it is written in the Bible, “ What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Okay as much as Pelumi Paul and Boluwatitoleyi Elizabeth have consented together in Holy wedlock and have witnessed the same before God and  this congregation and there unto have given and pledged by covenant each to the other and have declared the same by giving and receiving of rings and by joining of hands… I, Rev Mike Osayiwu, as a minister of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ pronounce and declare  you husband and wife in the name of God the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
